Electron Hydro has constructed a new rearing and acclimation pond facility for salmon enhancement immediately below the diversion for use by the Puyallup Tribe. The pond will hold young fish for 2-3 months that will then be released to the Puyallup River.
On April 8, 2020 the Puyallup Tribe Fisheries Department stocked Electron's pond with over 320,000 young Chinook Salmon. These Chinook smolt were released into the river on May 29, 2020!
Phase One involves replacement of the Electron spillway with a rubber bladder spillway and rebuilding the river shoreline protection immediately adjacent to the intake diversion. This Phase is scheduled to be completed in Summer 2020.
Phase Two involves construction of a fish and sediment exclusion facility that will return fish and sediment to the river immediately below the diversion. This phase will be initiated after a period of observation of Phase One operations.
